Completion of Partial Handover and Commencement of Operations at Land-Based Aquaculture Plant (“Futtsu Farm”)

– Production activities start at Futtsu commercial plant (Phase 2), Entering the Next Growth Phase –

FRD Japan Co., Ltd. (”FRD”, Head Office: Saitama; Representative: Tetsuro Sogo) today announces the completion of partial handover of its land-based aquaculture plant currently under construction in Futtsu, Chiba, Japan (the “Futtsu Farm”1), and has commenced operations at the site.

As previously announced in our press release dated July 20, 2023, titled FRD Japan to Construct a Commercial Land-based Aquaculture Plant for Rainbow Trout in Chiba, Japan FRD has been advancing construction of the Futtsu Farm based on operational expertise accumulated through our R&D plants in Kisarazu and Saitama, as well as our proprietary closed recirculating aquaculture system.

In line with the originally announced plan, FRD has now completed the partial handover of the Futtsu Farm, introduced the first batch of eyed eggs into the incubation systems, and successfully commenced aquaculture production activities at the Futtsu Farm.

Alongside production activities at the newly completed water treatment facilities and the FS wing—where hatching and smolt rearing are conducted—construction work continues on piping, instrumentation, and processing lines in the GO wing, which will handle grow-out from smolt to harvest size. We will continue our efforts toward full-scale start-up and stable operations, targeting the first commercial shipment from the Futtsu Farm in 2027.

Reaching this important milestone of partial completion and the start of production marks our transition from construction phase to operations phase in Phase 2. This achievement would not have been possible without the continued understanding and support of our business partners, shareholders, and financial institutions, as well as the dedicated efforts of our construction partners, including Toyo Construction Co., Ltd., Sekisui Aqua Systems Co., Ltd., JGC Corporation, and many other collaborators who ensured that the project progressed on schedule despite challenging conditions.

All of us at FRD remain deeply grateful for this support and are committed to the success of the Futtsu Farm and to advancing our mission: “Produing quality trout with keeping the blue ocean.”
